District Operations Manager, Transfer Stations ID - 15079

About the position

As a District Operations Manager for Transfer Stations, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a single remote site or a small site with a single line of business, such as a Transfer Station. This role also encompasses the management of operations at medium to large sites. You will oversee Route Managers and/or Senior Route Managers who report directly to you.

Your primary focus will be to establish and maintain performance and productivity metrics while implementing cost management processes to ensure operational efficiency. In this position, you will provide daily support to managers to ensure quality and budget performance. You will monitor operating metrics, diagnose issues, and improve processes, procedures, and overall performance. Safety and compliance are paramount; therefore, you will execute necessary precautions to adhere to Company, OSHA, and other regulatory standards. You will conduct thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining as needed.

Your responsibilities will also include overseeing the personnel needs of the department, which involves selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees, as well as evaluating their performance. You will provide input into decisions regarding termination, compensation, and promotions. Additionally, you will formulate both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in collaboration with the Market Area General Manager and/or Director of Operations.

Regular participation in P&L reviews will be required to ensure that budgets are met. You will develop and implement programs aimed at optimizing equipment utilization, maintenance, and managing labor and material costs. Interacting with local city, municipal, and county agencies will be essential to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts, and negotiate new contracts, thereby establishing WM as a good corporate citizen and a valued resource. You will also ensure compliance with Service Machine procedures and work towards maintaining Gold Certification Standards while collaborating with functional groups to resolve employee and labor relations issues.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the District and provide daily support to managers.
