About The Position

The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Skilled Trades Worker position. This recruitment may be used to hire for various divisions including, but not limited to, Facilities and the County's General Aviation airports, North Las Vegas Airport and/or Henderson Executive Airport.

This recruitment will be used to fill positions at Harry Reid International Airport, located at 5757 Wayne Newton Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89119, North Las Vegas Airport, located at 2730 Airport Drive, North Las Vegas, NV 89032, and/or Henderson Executive Airport, located at 3500 Executive Terminal Drive, Henderson, NV 89052.

Facilities - Building Maintenance: This position performs semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, security, and structural systems and elements of County and local agency buildings and facilities. Further, this position assists in performing basic carpentry such as framing and drywall, electrical, electronic, plumbing, cement, and painting work. Additionally, this position will install and repair commercial doors, ceiling grids, and office cubicles.

Facilities - Plumbing Shop: This position will assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of commercial plumbing fixtures and pipe systems under the guidance of an experienced trades Airport Plumber. Further, this position will assist in maintaining and servicing a variety of plumbing equipment and hand/power tools and the restocking of mobile and shop storerooms.

Facilities - Baggage Handling System (BHS): This position will assist the Airport Equipment Mechanic and Electrician positions in performing semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, security, and structural systems and elements of Department of Aviation buildings and facilities. Additionally, this position will assist in performing carpentry, electrical, electronic, plumbing, cement, and painting work.

Facilities - Airport Equipment Systems (AES): This position will assist the Airport Equipment Mechanic and Electrician positions in daily tasks and will set up lifts, cones, and tools needed to secure an area. Further, this position performs work in installation, maintenance, and repair work, reads basic blueprints and diagrams, and installs metal doors, door closures, and door hardware.

General Aviation: This position performs semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, HVAC (including Evaporative Coolers), security, and structural systems and elements of Clark County buildings and facilities at the County's General Aviation airports, North Las Vegas Airport and/or Henderson Executive Airport. Areas of responsibility also include airside and landside buildings, structural interior/exterior preventative maintenance, general repair work, landside and airside facility repair, airfield maintenance, perimeter fence repair, landscaping, and weeding.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school AND two (2) years of full-time skilled trades experience performing installation, maintenance or repair work. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work out of doors in all weather conditions. Specified positions may be exposed to hazardous asbestos, chemicals and the ability to wear self-contained breathing equipment.

Licensing and Certification: Specified positions require possession of a valid Class C, Nevada Driver's License at time of appointment.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician. A self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) test may be part of the exam for specified positions.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers' license laws within 90 days of employment.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Background Check: Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Note: all prospective hires must present two original government issued ID's upon acceptance of job offer. Examples of acceptable ID's include a Passport, Driver's License or DMV issued ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, Voter Registration card, school issued ID with picture, etc.

Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a ten year employment and five year residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb and to work in confined or awkward spaces for varying periods of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Performs semi-skilled craft work in a variety of craft areas; works on a crew and performs semi-skilled work in area of assignment; performs varied duties depending upon the craft area to which assigned; however, the assignments are normally in the following areas: Assists in installing, maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment and controls, including installing related piping and electrical systems; performs pipefitting work, preventive maintenance on a variety of building operational systems; tests and treats boiler water; recharges refrigerant systems.
  • Assists in the repair, maintenance and remodeling of plumbing and pipefitting systems, equipment and facilities.
  • Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic lighting, data communication, security, control, street lighting and related systems; performs installation and repair of motors, generators, transformers, conduit, and interior wiring components.
  • Assists in performing rough and finish carpentry, including cabinetry, shelves, dividers, paneling and partitions; assists in installing ceiling and flooring materials; installs locks, closing devices and other door and window hardware; prepares forms for cement laying and assists in the finishing of cement projects.
  • Assists in performing painting to interior and exterior building surfaces; prepares surfaces for painting, protects surrounding surfaces and uses a variety a methods to apply paint or other covering materials such as brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
  • Assists in maintaining and servicing a variety of test equipment and hand and power tools; uses and restocks a small inventory of frequently used supplies and hardware.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • May direct the work of less skilled assistants on a specific team assignment; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed.
  • May independently perform maintenance and repair work of a routine or standard nature in the craft area to which assigned.
  • Maintains records of work performed and materials used; may use a mobile device to lookup or input data related to the work.
  • Drives various vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
