DESCRIPTION Are you a current student or recent graduate of an MPA/MBA program (or other closely related field), looking to gain critical work experience in a fast paced, professional, and challenging work environment. If yes, then look no further!. The City of Corona is looking to hire a City Management Fellow, a temporary position to gain valuable work experience in the City Manager's Office.

Fellows will receive supportive supervision and professional mentoring throughout their fellowship. Please note that we intend to bring the successful candidate in at the top step of the range. This position will work a maximum of 19 hours per week. This position may be required to work various hours, shifts, and weekends for purpose of attending meetings and events.

To be eligible, you must be either a current student in a Master's program or have graduated within the last 12 months. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year. The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: City Manager's Office, Community Services, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Planning & Development, Police, Public Works, and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024 is $409.7 million with a General Fund operating budget of $209.7 million. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Management fellows will work closely with the City's executive leadership team and will be involved in research, analytical work, and advising on special projects

Management Fellows will perform a wide variety of administrative, project-related, and department-specific assignments to receive on-the-job exposure to municipal government processes, projects, programs, and issues. Fellows will be supervised by staff in the City Manager's Office and interact with a variety of staff in other departments and provide support on projects and activities across multiple City departments. Discusses findings with management staff and prepares reports of study conclusions.

Researches, writes, and presents reports and recommendations on various municipal government topics. Assists in the coordination of data acquisition and materials development for various departments and assigned projects. Performs a variety of administrative and/or technical tasks in support of City programs; assists the public.

Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES Knowledge of: Basic principles, practices, and methods of administrative, organizational, economic, and procedural analysis; Public Administration principles and policies; personal computer applications; financial/statistical/comparative analysis techniques and formulas. Research methods and procedures, including computer equipment and applications.

Ability to: Utilize basic principles of municipal government management, and learn and understand the organization and operation of the City and of outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities; Organize own work, coordinate projects, and set priorities; effectively communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing. Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines. Collect and compile information and data; prepare related reports.

Learn, interpret, and apply administrative and departmental policies and procedures. Compose correspondence and reports from brief instructions. Organize, maintain, and update office database and records systems.

Make accurate arithmetic, financial, and statistical computations. Enter and retrieve data from a computer with sufficient speed and accuracy. Establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative relationships with department staff members, other City employees, and the public.

Education and Experience: Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in business or public administration, or a related field in human resources management, public or business administration, or a related field. May be currently enrolled in an accredited MPA/MBA program or have graduated with an MPA/MBA within the last 12 months (closely related fields may be acceptable). Experience: Professional experience in administration, management, or systems, operations, or budgetary analyses is desirable.
