About the position

The Groundskeeper position at the City of Tyler is responsible for maintaining the grounds of various downtown facilities, including the Police Department, City Hall, and other city buildings. The role involves performing daily maintenance tasks, operating equipment, and assisting city departments as needed. This is an entry-level position that requires the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and handle physical demands associated with grounds maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the grounds of downtown facilities including Police Department buildings, City Hall, and others.
  • Pick up litter and perform light maintenance for power equipment and hand tools.
  • Mow small turf areas and perform weed eating and debris clean-up.
  • Conduct minor irrigation repairs and trash removal.
  • Clean facilities and operate equipment as needed.
  • Trim plants and remove dead plants and tree limbs.
  • Safely operate vehicles and small all-terrain maintenance vehicles, including towing a small trailer.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors via radio and telephone.
  • Clean work areas and equipment after tasks are completed.
