Position Summary

Thrive, an 87,000 square foot multigenerational recreation center, is one of the main components of the bond package passed by Lewisville voters in November 2015. It features an indoor natatorium, a gymnasium, an indoor walking track, an expanded fitness area, community rooms, and an indoor playground for children. This facility is designed to encourage all people of all abilities to visit and play.

Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, the Lifeguard assists with supervising operations related to maintenance, aquatic programs, special events and aquatic personnel of Thrive. In addition, prevents aquatic injuries by educating guests of safety rules and regulations; maintaining facility cleanliness; reporting all questionable safety situations to pool management; and assists guests as needed. 
 

Essential Functions

 

  • Oversee daily operations of assigned facility.
  • Determine and enforce safety measures, rules and regulations in and around the pool to ensure the personal safety of facility guests.
  • Perform water rescues utilizing first aid, CPR/AED and lifesaving techniques.
  • Respond to and coordinate with EMS personnel before, during and after emergency situations.
  • Assist in maintaining the aquatic areas; including daily testing and documenting of pool chemicals and maintenance while on duty. Including the preparation of various reports and logs.
  • Assist with regular in-service training, evaluate and give instructions to lifeguards to improve techniques and perform skill audits.
  • Maintain pool facility equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as the aquatic lead when the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Specialist are off duty.
  • Cover various lifeguard shifts as needed.
  • Perform related duties, as assigned.

 

Position Qualifications

Education

  •  High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to follow instructions, safety practices and standard operating procedures in performing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to climb 8-foot ladders on a continual basis during assigned shift. 
  • Ability to transport 50 lb. sacks of chemicals and apply, as required.
  • Ability to be punctual and attend work as assigned working a flexible schedule, working days, nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with team members and facility guests.
 
Preferences
  • Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certificate preferred.
  • Current American Red Cross Waterpark Certificate preferred.
 
Other Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate.
  • Must possess current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate.
  • Must possess current First Aid Certificate.
  • Must possess a valid State of Texas Drivers License Class “C” and good driving record as defined by City policy.
  • Must submit to and pass pre-employment drug test.
  • Must have ability to obtain an American Red Cross Waterpark Certificate upon hire.
  • All applicants will be required to submit to and pass skills test prior to being hired. 
  • All persons hired are required to provide their own swimsuit as specified by the Aquatic Supervisor.
