The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Payroll Coordinator to provide assistance with the administration of payroll. This position will work collaboratively with staff to prepare payroll in partnership with the Assistant Director of Total Rewards. The Payroll Coordinator earns a competitive hourly salary of $24-$26/based on experience.

General Description

The purpose of this job within the organization is to assist with the administration of select aspects of payroll processing.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for some aspects of payroll production including time input, time accuracy, final review of checks, and distribution of checks and reports.
  • Assists with the preparation and reporting of all payroll related payments including but not limited to positive pay, child support, retirement, health savings accounts, and vendor distributions.
  • Verifies time sheet accuracy.
  • Resolves basic payroll related inquiries directly with employees.
  • Performs continuous system updates for direct deposits, W4's, and status changes.

Additional Duties:

  • Gathers data from software such as pay rates and accrual time to assist with final pays and adjustments.
  • Prepares wires transfers for taxes, direct deposit, and other payroll related payments based on data derived from the payroll reports.
  • Responsible for maintaining current payroll documents in electronic records software.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in accounting, finance or closely related field.
  • Requires four years payroll or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
