Job Summary The Salem Police Department is hiring two part-time Community Services Officers. Make an impact: The City of Salem Police Department has an exciting new opportunity. We are seeking candidates for the position of Community Services Officer (CSO) to assist the public or sworn police officers with civil or property complaints where enforcement or arrest powers are not required.

What you will do: As a CSO, you will travel to meet with citizens and inspect neighborhoods, investigate noise complaints, non-violent domestic problems, or health complaints to assess the magnitude of the issue and offer mitigation or resolution options. In this position, you will respond to non-injury accidents and assist in facilitating the exchange of information, maintaining traffic safety, and coordinating the removal of vehicles. You will also prepare non-injury traffic reports, record information for police reports, and document citizen concerns and suggestions to enhance law enforcement effectiveness.

Additional information on job responsibilities: This work is performed both in an office and in the field. It involves working in inclement weather, traveling between locations, navigating uneven surfaces and high-traffic areas, and interacting with individuals who may be upset. NOTE: This is a part-time career position.

Shift assignments are three consecutive 8-hour shifts, bid by seniority as per the SPEU contract. Initial training will be conducted at 40 hours per week. Part-time career positions are eligible for participation in City of Salem benefits programs, including health insurance and accruals for sick, vacation, and holiday leave, based on the percentage of hours worked What can we offer you for all your hard work.

Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana) Must be at least 18 years of age to apply Must have an Oregon Class C driver's license and a driving record that meets the City of Salem's standards High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate and training or work experience in mediation or social work, providing the ability to interact with individuals and groups with understanding, tact, and courtesy - or any combination of experience and training that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed, and the ability to perform the examples of work Must participate in defensive tactics training, which includes being sprayed with oleoresin capsicum, to receive certification Must register for our job posting on the National Testing Network (NTN) website (required to qualify and be scored) Must pass a criminal background check necessary to obtain Criminal Justice Information System clearance and Law Enforcement Data System certification within 30 days of hire (clearance must be maintained throughout employment) What are the Preferred Qualifications.
