The City and County of Broomfield's Community Development Department is seeking a full-time Combination Inspector to join the high functioning Building Division.  


*Preference will be given to applicants that hold a State of Colorado Electrical License


This position is generally scheduled Monday - Friday, 7:45 AM - 4:15 PM.


The incumbent performs a variety of professional technical inspection duties to ensure that construction complies with building codes and ordinances adopted by the City and County of Broomfield.   Primary responsibilities include code interpretation and ensuring minimum code requirements related to the City and County Building Division functions and Municipal Code and providing information and assistance to City and County staff and the public.



Salary Range: $31.71 - $54.21/hour

Combination Inspector II   $36.42 - $49.28 

Combination Inspector III  $40.07 - $54.21

 

Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties

 

  • Conduct systematic inspections of materials used and work performed in new and improved construction of residential dwellings to insure compliance with applicable City and County codes and ordinances to include the International Building Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code, and the National Electrical Code. Provide information to builders to assist in correcting deficiencies in construction. 

  • Explain laws, ordinances, and code provisions to contractors, property owners, the general public and re-inspect sites which were not approved on prior inspections.  

  • Issue stop-work orders on work being done without permits or when necessary for code violations.  

  • Maintain inspection records, prepare necessary reports and recommend the issuance of a certificate of occupancy upon completion of the final inspection.  

  • Assist the plans analysts with performing systematic plan reviews of construction plans and specifications for new and remodeled residential projects, read and interpret maps, plats, site plans, construction plans, grading plans, and specifications as required. 

  • Attend meetings, workshops, and conventions as necessary for the maintenance of effective services.  

  • Operate a motor vehicle in traveling to and from work sites as well as ensure that facilities and equipment are maintained properly. 

  • Adhere to attendance and workplace attire policies and perform related duties as required.

 License or ICC Certificate within in one or two areas (i.e. Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, or Building-see options below).

High school graduation or GED equivalent.

Two years of progressively responsible experience in the building trades or building code enforcement.

Combination Inspector II

License or ICC Certificate in three areas OR equivalent combination of training and experience with a minimum of one license or ICC certificate. 

Combination Inspector III

Combination Inspector Certification which is equivalent to License or ICC Certificate in all four areas OR equivalent combination of training and experience with a minimum of one license or ICC certificate.


OR


Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however  education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience


Certification Options:

Electrical Option – minimum Electrical Journeyman License issued by State of Colorado or State recognition as residential electrical inspector

**Preference for candidates with an electrical background


Plumbing Option – minimum Plumbing Journeyman License issued by State of Colorado or IAPMO/ICC Plumbing Inspector Certification


Mechanical Option – Mechanical Inspector ICC Certification within 6 months from date of hire.


Building Option – ICC Building Inspector Certification OR ICC Plan Review Certification OR ICC Combination Inspector Certification within 6 months from date of hire.


Necessary Special Requirements – Must be at least 18 years of age.  Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record for continued employment. Applicants must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: oral board, reference checks, background checks including police check and sex-offender registry, driving check through DMV, and pre-placement physical.
