Internal Services Supervisor MC ID - 15567

Position Summary The Internal Services Supervisor plans, coordinates and directs the daily activities of the custodial and City warehouse staff to provide tangible materials and custodial upkeep of City facilities, enabling employees and the public to conduct City business seamlessly. Education, Training, Experience, Certifications, Licenses and Registrations Education / higher education: High School Graduate or equivalent Minimum number of years of directly related experience: Six years directly related work experience in a combination of custodial and warehousing inventory control with at least one year in a supervisory position. Education and/or experience preferences: some college coursework, custodial supervisory experience.

Required certifications, licenses or registrations: None Preferred certifications, licenses or registrations: None Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge: Knowledge of custodial cleaning equipment use and upkeep, OSHA Safety Standards; knowledge of tools and equipment used in warehouse operations;Operations, services and activities of a warehousing program (e.g. ordering and stocking) Skills: Must be able to type rapidly and accurately enough to successfully produce documents/spreadsheets, communicate via e-mail, or perform data entry as necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the position

Use of technology, equipment and software typically used in the office environment. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees; carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; write routine reports and correspondence; use math concepts to present data in charts, graphs, and presentations. Abilities: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: works with other department supervisors and managers on routine assignments and special projects. Maintains harmonious, courteous, and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment. External: Works with other divisions/departments concerning custodial requirements and resolves complaints.

Presents a professional, courteous image for the City to the general public, customers, and public officials. Essential Functions The following functions are typical for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow. Issues written and oral instructions to subordinates on work product, priorities, timelines, and task specifications.

Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to specifications. Studies and standardizes procedures to improve department and employee productivity. Maintains harmony among subordinates, and resolves conflicts and grievances.

Prepares work summaries and reports for submission to management. Works with subordinates to address errors, omissions, and complaints in order to maintain effective customer relations. Assists subordinates in performing their duties and provides training on the correct operation of equipment to ensure adherence to OSHA safety practices and guidelines.

Performs direct supervision of all assigned custodians and warehouse staff. Records and maintains job activity logs. Conducts employee performance evaluations, recommends disciplinary actions and resolves employee complaints.

Implements standard techniques of inventory control, material storage, handling and disposal. Coordinates all disposal activities for the City. Assists in the preparation of the division budget and administers budget for the division.

Collaborates with the Building Maintenance Supervisor to report building maintenance needs and coordinate the completion of tasks that align with shared objectives. Supervise, organize and review the work of warehouse staff in the area of work assigned. Independently perform the most difficult warehousing tasks e.g

space utilization; inventory control methodology; sustaining service levels when demand is increased; identifying and resolving security issues and suboptimal picking paths. Develop, interpret, explain and enforce warehouse standard operating procedures, policies and practices. Perform a variety of warehousing duties and functions including receiving, logging, storing, issuing and delivering supplies and materials Operate a variety of warehousing equipment e.g

forklift; pallet jack; drum equipment; conveyers; ladders; label printers; QR readers/scanners; dock accessories. Oversees the functions and daily work of the custodial staff and ensures buildings and facilities are clean and maintained. Serve as backup to custodial and warehouse operations when there is a shortage of staff.
