Investment Banker – Extractive Energy

We are seeking an experienced banker for our Extractive Energy practice. The rapidly expanding oil field services sector has resulted in the creation of this new position. The role would be to lead the execution of transactions in this sector and to conduct new business development. A high attention to detail is mandatory, including the review of work product of associates and analysts. The right candidate will have the requisite interpersonal skills and technical skills to progress to Managing Director.

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated and talented Vice President for our growing Chicago-based middle market investment banking practice. This professional will have strong transaction execution skills, marketing skills and a broad network. The candidate will be able to originate opportunities, lead a deal team in obtaining engagements, and lead engagements to their conclusion. This position is a track to Director where the primary responsibilities are new business development, including lead generation, initiation of investment banking engagements and relationship management.

Supported by our experienced investment banking professionals, our Vice President will be able to leverage their experience, network and industry specialization to generate high quality middle market transactions for the firm. This position represents a significant career and economic opportunity for the right individual.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct business development activities to identify, source and introduce potential clients for M&A and capital raising assignments
  • Participate in the preparation of materials describing the business, market positioning and financial condition of clients
  • Identify potential buyers and investors that might be interested in a client’s business and participate in contacting these entities on behalf of the clients
  • Develop a network of contacts in relevant fields that will assist the Firm in finding new client and expanding relationships with potential investors
  • Supervise and mentor staff members

Requirements:

  • Expertise in the energy sector, particularly oil field services. Candidates with operating experience or consulting experience will be given preference
  • Five years of experience conducting advisory related projects
  • Prior experience in investment banking and/or knowledge of the process and client expectations
  • Graduate degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics from an accredited college/university and/or relevant professional designation. An engineering undergraduate degree is ideal
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative background skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, solid research skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment and/or independently
  • Ability to find and contact potential clients, with ability to build (or utilize existing) extensive network of potential clients and referral sources
  • Entrepreneurial / desire to succeed
  • Initiative – must be a self-starter, able to work independently with drive and motivation
  • Positive personality with a sense of humor
  • Commercial outlook – desire to make money in cooperation with and alongside the Firm
