Job Description

Summary of Position:

The IT Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for providing reporting and visualization tools, such as dashboards and analytical models, to support performance monitoring and business decisions across the organization.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand the requirements of data analytics solutions needed by the organization and coordinate the entire life cycle involved in delivering these solutions. Ensures alignment of business goals, timelines, and budgets for these solutions.
  • Work with data lake and data warehouse resources to add new data subjects to these BI source data stores.
  • Design, develop, and optimize interactive Power BI reports and dashboards tailored to business needs. Ensure reports follow best practices in visualization, performance, and usability.
  • Utilizing the enterprise data warehouse and other sources as required, develop data models to support functional and business unit data analysts so these data analysts can perform ad hoc and other detailed analysis independent of the IT team.
  • Manage and maintain a data dictionary to ensure there is a clear understanding of data element names exposed in data models and displayed in standard report content.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the capabilities and functions of assigned Business Intelligence software, which currently is Microsoft PowerBI. Use this knowledge to recommend optimal solutions to business requirements that best leverages the product.
  • Assist with training activities as needed.
  • Assists in upgrade & migration activities associated with data analytics software and infrastructure.
  • Ensures quality of all solutions so that trust and integrity are maintained.
  • Ensures that security access controls are established and maintained for solutions.
  • Ensures that housekeeping is performed to eliminate unneeded artifacts.

 

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of IT Business Intelligence Analyst experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with Microsoft PowerBI.
  • Conceptual knowledge of ETL principals, star schema data warehouse structures, and other common data lake, data warehouse, and business intelligence practices.
  • Conceptual knowledge of the rest of the Microsoft Analytics stack (Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric a plus.

Skills:

  • Foundational Project Management Skills – Capable of managing small projects that would involve 1-2 additional people and require up to 200 hours effort for the total team.
  • Communication - Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation skills. Ability to communicate complex ideas in plain language.
  • Good listening skills and ability to fully understand concepts by asking good questions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
