 Support 3 **Evenings and Saturdays Required** NATURE OF JOB: Performs duties to assist patrons.

Compiles records, sorts and shelves books, and receives library materials; registers library customers to permit them to borrow library materials; receives cash from customers in payment for goods or services; and provides information services such as answering questions regarding use of the online public access catalog and other library resources. Participates in the physical preparation of materials; operates computer and peripheral equipment to process data and generate reports. Assists patrons in use of library computers and locating and obtaining materials.

Hours may include evenings and weekends. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Circulation Services Inputs into computer confidential identifying data, such as name and address, from application card to register borrowers; issues identification cards to customers according to established procedures. Inputs into computer identifying data to check out books to customers.

Maintains confidentiality of customer information and items researched or borrowed per Florida Statutes. Inspects returned books for damage, verifies due date, and computes overdue fines. Communicates fees owed to customers, receives payment and ensures payments are applied correctly to customers' accounts.

Operates cash register or drawer. Makes change, records amounts received, and issues receipts to customers. Counts and reconciles cash register or drawer for daily use.

Answers questions about fines and fees; explains library policies and procedures. Makes decisions about waiving fines and fees when appropriate. Maintains copy machines with required paper and toner and clears paper jams.

Sorts books, publications and other items according to classification code and returns them to shelves or other designated area. Examines materials on shelves to verify accuracy of placement. Locates books and publications for customers.

Describes or demonstrates procedures for navigating the public access catalog, electronic resources, and the Internet. Explains and assists in use of reference sources such as book and periodical indexes to locate information. Answers inquiries of nonprofessional nature on telephone and in person and refers persons requiring professional assistance to appropriate librarian.

Keeps record of the number of questions asked. Notes customer requests and suggestions and shares with appropriate staff. Provides information regarding activities conducted at library; location of departments, offices, and employees; and services, such as open hours, service fees, etc.

Technical Services Completes physical preparation of library materials for shelving; enters data into computer database; generates reports. Repairs damaged or worn books for reuse. May participate in management of inventories of leased book programs.

May act as substitute courier by delivering library materials to multiple locations in the library system as needed. Maintains records of periodical subscriptions and reports issues not received. Shelves periodicals and removes older issues as needed.

Youth Services Greets customers and assists them in selecting and locating library materials. Provides readers' advisory; suggests books and other materials based on reader needs and interests. Recommends library resources for homework help and other research needs.

Explains and assists in the use of reference sources such as public access catalog to locate information. Describes or demonstrates procedures for navigating the public access catalog, electronic resources, and the Internet. Assists patrons with use of library computers; troubleshoots basic computer use problems.

Recommends books and other materials of interest to youth and young adults for acquisition by library. Promotes goodwill through publicity efforts such as speeches, tours and programs. Represents the library at community, social, and business gatherings.

Participates in inventory of books and materials. May supervise summer library program youth volunteers. Participates in preparation of youth programs and activities, including preschool story time, school-age library tours, and other programming to encourage reading and use of library materials and facilities.

Prepares handouts, programming materials, and displays of books and materials. May plan and conduct story time or other regularly scheduled programs for children, parents, and caregivers, either online or in-person. Participates in storytelling and book-talk programs, workshops, and training sessions for youth and adults that are presented outside the library setting, such as in schools, recreational centers, girls and boys clubs, and daycare centers.

Compiles lists of materials of interest to youth. Confers with parents, teachers, community organizations and care givers to develop an interest in libraries and stimulate reading. May assist other library locations with out-reach and in-house programs.

Adult & Reference Services Furnishes information on library activities, rules, and services. Demonstrates procedures for navigating the public access catalog, electronic resources, and the internet. Explains and assists in use of reference resources, such as book and periodical indexes.

Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Must maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with public. Must be able to speak, write, and comprehend English language.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of project management and organizational skills.

Ability to have excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work and maintain reliable full-time attendance. Ability to comprehend, speak, and read the English language.

Ability to have and maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from library staff and the general public. Ability to speak effectively before large groups. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers or other library employees. Ability to effectively present information to top management, the general public, library staff, and Boards of Directors. Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed in an indoor, climate-controlled environment and has moderate exposure to disagreeable elements (e.g., irate customer, extreme noise, heat, odors, heights and/or dust). This position requires stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, visual acuity (i.e. seeing up close, seeing far away, depth perception), kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions

Frequent lifting 10 to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Employee must be able to push or pull a loaded two-sided, six shelf book cart. Employee must occasionally retrieve library materials by climbing and/or reaching to top shelves of standard 84" library shelving and stooping to floor-level shelves of library shelving and bottom drawers of file cabinets.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Weekend and evening hours required. WORK LOCATION: Not Eligible for Remote Work - This position is assigned to a county worksite. Due to the non-portable nature of the essential functions of this position, this position is not eligible for telework.
